Part One of this chapter, accordingly, considers the figurative content of pic- torial space, by emphasizing its interpretative character, and the extraordinary modal plasticity which is implicated in this.
In Part Two, attention is paid to a neglected feature in which all figurative content is embedded, namely the planar structure of pictorial representation.
Now at the recognitional level, the picture's viewer will mainly negotiate its figurative content without taking account of the constructed dimension.
